Lilla Rose review – Consultant Jennifer

I didn’t use to enjoy girly hair stuffs but in recent years that has changed, when I need to be able to quickly put up my hair (what busy mom hasn’t needed a time for a quick pony tail?) I used to reach for the plastic claw or a scrunchie but now I reach for my Lilla Rose product.  Lilla Rose Independent Consultant Jennifer sent me my choice of a beautiful Flexi.

I did a simple twist and the Flexi slides under my hair and I lock it in place by sliding the bar under the other loop.  It’s so easy to use and there are some styling as well as sizing ideas on the site.  I chose the small Music Lover Flexi which sells for $14.00 and it looks lovely in my hair (if I do say so myself).  There are many sizes and styles to chose from – so watching the sizing video will really help you in getting the correct fit (if you don’t then your Flexi may not work for your hair type).  I’ve got several on my mental wish list like the Rich Multi-Cluster Copper and the Sea Inspired Dolphin.

You may be wondering if these really stay put – yes, they do.  I drive in my van with the windows down since we have no a/c and my Flexi stays in place all day (minus my layers which don’t go that far back).  I can even take a nap and it’s comfy – since there are no claws poking the back of my head and it stays in place.  I’ve even slept all night after forgetting it and did not wake up and my hair looked almost like it did when I fell asleep.  Lilla Rose also offers hair sticks, o-rings, bobby pins and more.  They also offer badge clips for those ladies who have a job or some reason for needing a badge but don’t like the utilitarian style – I’d like to get my mom the Lovely Circle Stone clip as she has numerous badges in her career as an ANP.

Age/Grade Range:  all ages/grades

Zane Education provides “visual learning – on demand subtitled videos, quizzes, study tools, lesson plans” as well as The Missing Piece - which helps students to learn effectively while improving their reading and literacy skills and helping them to not be left behind.  On their frequently asked question area about whether or not the videos contain religious teachings or messages the response is that they do not convey any religious or spiritual beliefs but use videos to support educational facts as outlined in K12 curriculum.

That being said, I really like the fact that there are a wide range of subjects covered such as:

  • Art – Ancient Greece through the 20th Century as well as other areas
  • Biology
  • Biological sciences (there is an area on evolution and natural selection)
  • Geography
  • Elementary World Geography
  • Health
  • History, including elementary
  • Library Skills
  • Literature
  • Math
  • and much more!

We have been using Zane to compliment what we’ve been learning or what the child’s interest is.  It does a wonderful job in filling in the gaps or adding to our current history and science curricula.  I’ll be continuing to use this website to add another exciting feature to our school days – although mine still prefer I read their lessons to them.  My 6 year old especially like the body videos which showed how the nervous system and other systems of our bodies work in a way that was easy for him to understand.  The Getting Started and User Guides can be downloaded for free by visiting Zane Education here.

I barely scratched the surface in watching these videos as there are over 1,500 videos spanning 400 topics with included lesson plans, quizzes and more.  While I am a home educator, Zane Education can be used by families who just want to add a little more education to their child’s learning experience – and since it’s aligned with National and State standards for grades K through 12 – it’ll work for just about any child in public, private, virtual school or home schooled!  With the subtitles and closed captioning it can help those who struggle to read, while improving those skills without them realizing it.

When I first started out with this, I was very excited, because I was thinking these would be videos like other on demand video sites – but they aren’t.  They reminded more of a slide show that I would have been subjected to in the schools I attended, although the sound quality was much better but some videos still appeared to be less modern – which is both a good and bad thing, good because there were no skimpy clothing; bad because most children may not be able to relate to the older style of dress that appears in some videos.  This did not bother my 6 and 7 year old however my 10 year old was not as enthused about the videos – I did enjoy learning from them myself even with the sense of nostalgia.

Overall, I liked being able to have videos that are easy to access and available for my children without me having to worry about content as much as I have to with regards to T.V. and I think the quizzes are a good thing but even I struggled with some of the questions because you much pay very good attention to what you are watching and in the body area you have to watch all the videos before you can take the quiz – so if you don’t remember everything you won’t score well.  There are downloads of the lesson plans for each video and those can be printed if you desire to do so, along with study helps such as a dictionary, encyclopedia and a thesaurus.   Thankfully there are levels for each income level even if the smaller memberships limit they each have something that will work for families who want a little something extra for their students.

You can find Zane Education on Facebook.

If you want to order – now through the end of August 2012 you can receive 35% off any membership order of Bronze, Silver or Gold by using the following, case sensitive code at check out:  ZE555HSM

The Gospel Story Bible by Marty Machowski and Illustrated by A.E. Macha

About the Bible (from New Growth Press) :

It is easy to forget Jesus in the midst of frantic schedules, family squabbles, and conflicting priorities. But the truth is that he is the hero of every story, including these ordinary ones. This is why Marty Machowski puts God’s plan of salvation in Christ on continuous display in The Gospel Story Bible. The easy-to-read storybook introduces your family to many captivating people, places, and events from the Bible’s Old and New Testaments, showing how each one ultimately points to Jesus.

As you share these Bible stories together, you and your family will meet Jesus and learn a new, life-changing way of recognizing Christ as the hero of every story. Vibrant illustrations by A. E. Macha, child-friendly discussion questions, and Scripture references accompany each narrative to help you lead your family in exploring the Bible. You will be delighted to discover how easily even a young child can understand the original text of a story that he or she has already come to love. Ideal as a storybook for your preschooler, a devotional for your grade school student, a refresher for the adult believer, or an introduction for the new one, The Gospel Story Bible is also a companion to Long Story Short: Ten-Minute Devotions to Draw Your Family to God and the forthcoming Gospel Story Sunday School curriculum.

My Opinion:

If you’re a Christian parent, then you know the importance of making sure your children have a great understanding of the Bible and it doesn’t start when they are old enough to read the Bible on their own, no it starts from the moment they are born.  If you’re gung-ho about about you can even start while they are in the womb – regardless the goal of all Christian parents should be that their children know the Bible, memorize it’s Word and accept Christ as their Savior.  Enter The Gospel Story Bible.

Using the ESV Bible, English Standard Version, this story Bible is anything but stories.  The Word of God comes to life in vivid detail, good enough for a young child and great enough for an adult who needs to recall a certain detail of that one story that may have been forgotten like, who was that fourth person in the fiery furnace (yes there were 4).

Each story is short, so it can be easily read as a bedtime story or as a morning devotion, with only one page of reading it can be read in as little as five minutes.  Each story give the Scripture location so that the whole story and surrounding Scriptures can be read for the older child or adult.  Also included are “Let’s Talk About It!” questions, such as “Who is the fourth man?”.   This will aid in using this as a family devotion and an educational aid in your family’s or church’s teachings.

**I was provided a copy of this Bible from B&B Media Group, in exchange for my honest opinion, no other compensation was given.

Chex Mix Bars – Giveaway closed

I was given two boxes of Chex Mix Bars in Turtle flavor, creamy caramel, chocolate, pretzels, chex pieces and peanuts to make one indulgent snack. This was sponsored by MyBlogSpark and the best part is yet to come….keep reading!

Each bar has less than 150 calories and contains 8 grams of whole grains (recommended daily serving is 48 grams). They are a filling to snack and I was able to enjoy them without running my blood sugar up – so that’s a good thing for diabetics. I won’t say that’s true for all diabetics though but for me these were a good snack option. They are also void of any artificial sweetners, another plus since I get sick from artificial sweetners.

I want to share the yummy snack with my readers so MyBlogSpark is going to send three of my great readers two of their own boxes! That’s right, three people who read my blog will recieve two of their own boxes to share or hoard (LOL) with their family and friends. So how do you get a chance to win?

In order to enter, answer the following question:

“How do you unwind after a long day?” It doesn’t have to be food related – just tell me how do you relax? For me it’s reading a good book.

Make sure to leave me your email so I can contact you for your mailing address if you win so MyBlogSpark can mail your boxes to you! U.S. residents only and remember to answer the question and leave me an email or some way to contact you if you win!

Contest ends at noon EST on July 31st.

Next Generation: New Testament

I recieved Word of Promise Next Generation New Testament (http://www.thomasnelson.com/consumer/product_detail.asp?dept_id=230170&sku=1400313309) from Thomas Nelson, on 3 MP3 CDs. There is over 23 hours of dramatic audios of the Bible. There is an all star cast reading this, such as Annasohphia Robb, Corbin Bleu, Emily Osment and others.

I wasn’t sure how I would like this since I am not big on today’s Hollywood actresses or actors even the ones that claim Christianity, but I thought it would be neat for the children. I was very impressed and am praying that by doing this that there hearts are more open to the Lord, if they weren’t before.

My children were very intuned to this as we listened to it while we cleaned and I sewed. The dramatic pace of the CDs made it enjoyable and the children were able to understand the stories as they were portrayed. I didn’t get the sense that any Biblical truths were compromised in the dramatic reading of Scriptures either. The version used is called the ICB New Testament. I have no knowledge of this version of the Bible, but like I said I didn’t hear anything that I would say misconstrued the Word of God and it was written.

There are sound effects which aren’t overpowering and do not take over the performance being read. You can definitely hear and understand what is being read. That is a good thing when you have children who if not kept occupied will loose interest very quickly.

There is a 40 day listening plan, which would come in handy if you are not doing a review and I will likely use this during our school time according to the 40 day plan. The soundtrack is done by an award winning composer and there over 100 actors.

I would definitely recommend this set of CDs to accompany your Bible studies or even for a child or teen who would like to understand more Biblical truths.
