My Grandpa

on May 2, 2007

This is by far one of the saddest entries I have had to make so far in my blogging time.  I recieved a phone call from my Dad on April 30th, 2007 telling me the he didn’t know how to tell me some news.  I almost did not answer the phone because I had some weird feeling that something wasn’t right at that moment, but I answered it anyway, it would have just put off the inevitable anyway.  I asked my Dad if it was about Grandpa and he said yes, my Uncle found him.  I said "oh, where is he?", my dad "no, Sarah, Uncle *** found him at home" , maybe it was me trying to not realize what my Dad was saying but again I said "Where is he?"  my Dad was like "Sarah, Uncle *** found him in his bed, he passed away".  Well that did it,  my daughters got upset because I was crying and screaming.  I hung up on my dad because I couldn’t talk, I called my husband who came home immediately from work and took the day off.  My Grandpa was a great man.  It will be hard without him here, especially for holidays.  The 4th of July will be hard as that is also his birthday, he would have been 83.  My brothers and I spent many a weekend with my Grandparents, we got to watch "rastlin", eat junk food, go out to breakfast and basically were very spoiled 🙂  I have wonderful and fond memories of him, pounding nails into boards and eventually pounding so hard the nails went into the concrete floor in the garage, but Grandpa never got mad or upset, just pulled them up and let me keep pounding.  He instilled in me a sense of pride of being an American, part of the reason why I joined the Navy.  He was like a second earthly dad to me and I loved him so much.  He is now with his dear wife, my Grandma who passed away three years ago and one day I pray that I will get to see him again.  Tomorrow is the visitation and service and his graveside service will be on Saturday following cremation.  He is going to be buried with full military honors.  I will try to get some pictures scanned in and make a picture tribute to him at some point.  Here is the link to the online obituary

May God bless you.

Thank you both for your kind thoughts and comments. Yes, he was a good man. It is hard to let go. The service was very nice last night although draining emotionally. The VFW did a nice ceremony as well. He will be missed and I will be sure to share his memory with any other children I pray we will be blessed with.
    God bless.
