The Choice by Robert Whitlow

on August 9, 2012

About the Book:

One young woman. Two very different roads. The choice will change everything.

Even as a pregnant, unwed teen in 1974, Sandy Lincoln wanted to do the right thing. But when an ageless woman approached her in a convenience store with a mysterious prophecy and a warning, doing the right thing became even more unclear. She made the best choice she could . . . and has lived with the consequences.

More than thirty years later, a pregnant teen has come into her life, and Sandy’s long-ago decision has come back to haunt her. The stakes rise quickly, leaving Sandy with split seconds to choose once more. But will her choice decision bring life . . . or death?

The book can be purchased at Thomas Nelson.

My Opinion:

Not many books can affect me the way The Choice did and I read this in one day within a matter of hours.  Regardless of what side you stand on in the abortion debate this book will have you thinking about what it means to be pro-life and pro-choice (AKA pro-abortion).  At the end of the book in the note from Robert Whitlow he says “In this novel I want to show that the same word can apply to a woman’s decision not to abort her baby.”  I totally appreciate it because regardless of what side we are on we each make a choice, either to protect and keep life or the choice to murder and maim life – both are a choice and one choice is right and the other totally wrong.

I was pulled into Sandy’s world because I too could have been ‘that’ teenager, pregnant and unwed with a dead beat dad, thankfully the Lord, even then protected me and I’m so grateful.  I used to be that pro-abortion supporter – but again the Lord had bigger plans and recognizing that my first baby was a baby and mourning that death – left me a staunch supporter of the pro-life movement.  I could feel the inner turmoil as Sandy struggles against the grain to do what is right for her own children and I could feel that again as she takes up for a student she is helping in winning a life.

This novel, is a must read and it won’t leave you with just another finished book – it’ll be in the back of your mind long after you set it aside.  I think this would be an excellent book that just ‘happens’ to get left at a abortion service clinic and even in CPC’s as young women who find themselves with a choice to make – and it could influence them to make the right ‘choice’ in giving life and either keeping that life or making the sacrifice to let another family have the joy of raising her child.
