About the Author
Natalie Lonsdale is a former Early Childhood Educator who is currently studying to be a Library Technician. Natalie loves children’s literature, photography, travelling, history, and eucalyptus trees. Boondaburra is Natalie’s first book, and she is working on several more. Natalie has a heart to write stories that encourage children to delight in God’s word and in His love.

About the Book:

Boondaburra is sad. Why do the other animals make fun of him just because he is different? When tragedy strikes in the Australian bush, Boondaburra learns that being unique has its advantages. Boondaburra is the story of a platypus’ journey from rejection to accepting and understanding his uniqueness, and the friends who come to accept and admire those differences.

My Opinion:

I had the chance to get an e-copy of Boondaburra, which is a children’s book that introduces us to Boondy (his mom’s pet name for him) who is a platypus who feels very alone with all the teasing.  Boondaburra heads home and tells his mom that he is feeling ugly, for lack of a better word, and she explains that the Lord created him for His unique purpose.  I loved how the mom explained things to Boondy and since it’s a children’s book it is on a young level for easy understanding.  Towards the end Boondy recognizes his special uniqueness and the other animals come to also recognize how special Boondaburra is.

Filled with beautiful pictures of Australian animals, like our favorite bird the kookaburra – children will get a glimpse of the Australian beauty.  I can only imagine how beautiful the physical copy of this book is and I’m hoping that I can find it – as the print in the e-copy was very small – and I’ve heard the print copy has beautiful, larger print.  A beautiful story of the Creator, this also has a bit of educational value because at the end the author gives some information about the platypus – such as did you know they have spur that is poisonous?  There was a lot of information that has piqued my interest and I’m thinking it’s time for a unit study on this fascinating animal.
