Litfuse Publicity: Hidden in the Stars (Quilts of Love) by Robin Caroll

on September 18, 2014

About Quilts of Love:

Quilts tell stories of love and loss, hope and faith, tradition and new beginnings. The Quilts of Love series focuses on the women who quilted all of these things into their family histories. A new book releases each month and features contemporary and historical romances as well as women’s fiction and the occasional light mystery. You will be drawn into the endearing characters of this series and be touched by their stories.

About the book:

A quilt holds the secret to a killer still at large—and who his next victim will be.

Following an attack that killed her mother and stole her ability to speak, 21-year-old Sophia Montgomery has no choice but to accept her estranged grandmother’s offer to return to their family home. Although detective Julian Frazier is working hard on the case, Sophia unknowingly frustrates him because her inability to speak thwarts her eyewitness evidence. The fact that Julian is undeniably attracted to Sophia doesn’t help either, so Julian hides his feelings as concern for a trauma victim and focuses instead on finding the killer.

Little do they know, the clues to solving the case may be right in front of them, displayed in Sophia’s mother’s “special” quilt design. Who will realize the secret Sophia’s unwittingly been hiding in plain sight? When the truth comes to light, will Sophia find her voice again? Or will the murderer—still at large—silence her forever?

My Opinion:

Search my blog and you’ll see that I’ve had great fun reading the books in the Quilts of Love series, and I’m so glad I was able to read Hidden in the Stars by Robin Caroll.  I’ve not read her books before but after reading this one I’ll be sure to find more of her books because she was able to pull me in from the first chapter – it takes a lot to do that.  I was immediately pulled into the life of Olympic bound gymnast, Sophia Montgomery as she is lying in a hospital bed after an attack on her and her mother in her mother’s house.  Ofter we believe things in our past stay buried in our past and sometimes, they don’t……as is the case with Sophia and her mother and Sophia is left to grapple with the truth as she also struggles in recovering and knowing her career is over.

Sophia struggles in letting the Lord lead her and how to overcome the obstacles set before her, thankfully in His way, He provides people to come alongside her to help her in her healing – a long lost grandma, an interpreter and of course a little bit of romance thrown in with a handsome police officer working her case.  Each character has their own faith story, Julian, still reeling from a loss doesn’t want anything to do with the Lord but as he witnesses Sophia’s faith and her trust in God he comes to a realization that he can’t do it all on his own.  I don’t want to give away to much more of the story suffice to say this is a fantastic addition to the quilts of love series since a treasured quilt leads the way for the case to be solved and not just Sophia’s either!
