More on contentment

I have been reading a series called The Restoration series by Terri Blackstock and the first book is titled Last Light which I started yesterday and finished this morning.  I really do believe that God is speaking to me through the books I have choosen to pick up and read lately as this book too has talked about being content.  I don’t want to post any spoilers, but it is basically where a huge power outage sends the world back in the days before technology and the families in the book have to learn to be content.  One verse that really struck me that was used in this book was:

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things [are] honest, whatsoever things [are] just, whatsoever things [are] pure, whatsoever things [are] lovely, whatsoever things [are] of good report; if [there be] any virtue, and if [there be] any praise, think on these things.

Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.

But I rejoiced in the Lord greatly, that now at the last your care of me hath flourished again; wherein ye were also careful, but ye lacked opportunity

Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, [therewith] to be content.

Phillipians 4:8-11

I choose to put in Phl 4:8 because this is something else that needs work is to focus and think on things that are pure, just, lovely, of good report, virtue and praise .  I have a hard time with this when my day isn’t going well or I start yelling at drivers who don’t know how to drive.  I am learning that watching horror movies is not something that Jesus would want me doing just like it isn’t something I would sit around watching should He ever sit in my living room, what kind of testimony does that give to be watching filth?  Not a very good one.  I want to think and desire things that are pure and lovely which is hard to do in today’s world with all the humanistic, me, me, me attitude.  Even churches are spouting this doctrine and it’s disturbing.  I don’t want to be trying to reach the world with Jesus only to say oh yeah you know Sarah she reads trashy romance novels (I don’t but it’s an example), how does this look, definitely not of good report, virtue, pure or just.  Is it worthy of praise?  I have enjoyed watching shows like CSI, Cold Case, Without a Trace, etc but now wonder if this is what my eyes should be taking in?  I know I need to focus on God’s word and my hands doing constructive works:  She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness Proverbs 31:27  So by watching certain shows when I could be furthering the Kingdom by reading the Bible, building my children’s character, memorizing Scripture am i being idle, is this what the Proverbs 31 woman would be doing today, watching CSI – no!  I know not all changes come overnight but as I know the Lord can work in my heart He can change me and build me into the Proverbs 31 woman He wants me to be.

Okay now on to contentment, it is hard to pick and choose Scripture since it is all so wonderful for growth and learning. that is why I choose the Scripture preceding the ones regarding contenment.  Like I said in my last post regarding to be content, it is always a work in progress.  It is hard to hear about a friend becoming pregnant although I do rejoice with them, it is hard to hear about others who don’t work as hard or don’t value the mom being at home who have huge houses.  It is also a sin to envy and be jealous not to mention it has also been proven to be unhealthy.  So as in Phl. 4:11 I speak not of what I want because I really, honestly don’t want for anything.  We have food, clothing, heat or a/c, a roof over our heads, two vehicles that run, three wondeful children, a providing husband, water, we have what we need to live and of course we also have our Lord and Savior!  So I am learning to be content wherever, whenever and however I am regardless if that means I stay in a 2 bedroom one bathroom  house with 5 people (or more should the Lord choose it), if I only have three children and the Lord closes my womb.  i will learn to be content and lean on the Lord.

God bless.

Ad Council and Bullying too far????

I have had the local radio station on today so the children could listen to Christmas music.  This radio station has always been pretty good about what is played and I know that they can’t really say no to an ad council comercial but I was shocked.  Hannah told me she had already heard it once before while I was freshening up!!!  I couldn’t believe the things they put in this.  Not only did they take the name of God in vain, they used words such as tra** , freak, and calls her clothing disgusting and hideous.  This is supposed to be an ad about the dangers of cyber bullying but it was taken too far.  If you want to see what I am talking about here is the link:  under the right hand side labeled radio is a link called Megan, this is the one that I have a problem with.  I will be contacting them and voicing my opinion and if you are as upset and concerned that this is playing over millions of air waves to thousands of children every day, many times a day, write them.  We are trying to protect our children and to expose them unknowingly (of course not now) to this sort of trash talk is just not good.  Also if you hear it on your local radio I would suggest writing them too.

God bless.

A freecycle blessing!!!

Hello.  I posted on my local freecylce group for fabric and yarn.  The fabric for quilting and the yarn for the making the hats for the preemies at local NICU hospitals.  Well I had a lady who gave me a whole garbage bag full of fabric.  Another lady gave me three bags full of yarn, some of which was still brand new.  The yarn is soft enough to make the hats for the babies.  I am so happy.  I will try to take pictures today of the fabric, yarn and the hats I already have made thus far.  I can’t wait to donate them.

God bless.

If you feel led to….

I am looking for donations of yarn, preferably new but not needed.  With my new gift of being able to crochet I want to begin making little hats to donate to a couple local hospitals that deliver babies or take care of critically ill babies, wether they are full term or preemie.  I really enjoyed recieving a knitted hat for Christian at the hospital, knowing that someone out there took the time to knit a hat for babies they would never meet is a great feeling.  I want to pass that on.  I would like the really soft yarn, in fact some companies actually call it baby yarn, it is very soft and somewhat bulky.  If you feel led to donate, please contact me.  I will take pictures as I make them to ensure the persons who donate yarn that they are in fact being made and donated.

Thank you and God bless.
