Amish Trip Day 2

on March 24, 2006

Well we woke up a little later than the family probably did but we got downstairs around 9 a.m. We hadn't slept well, well the girls did, but my friend and I well that is something totally different. We both woke up at 3 a.m and then again around 6 a.m. then tried to fall back to sleep. When we finally got dressed and I got the girls ready to go downstairs we all went down and they were ready for breakfast. YUM!!! We had these huge sausages, scrambled eggs, homemade bread that was toasted, homemade preserves, homemade grape juice and orange juice. Breakfast was so wonderful. After breakfast we sat down with the Patriarch of the family and he told us some good places to go and how to get there. We first stopped at the candle shop and picked up Hannah's carved lighthouse candle and then stopped in Berlin at Sol's and the IGA to pick up some special ginger ale for the sick kids. We stopped at the Helping Hands quilt store, and there are some beautiful Amish handmade quilts in there (for anyone who loves me and wants to get me something nice for my birthday LOL) it makes definitely want to make more quilts that I can pass on to the girls at some point. We ate lunch at the restaurant they both recommended called Grandma's Restaurant in Charm. I had my first taste of butternut squash with caramel sauce and it was yummy. So we left Charm and headed to Kidron. Kidrom is where Lehman's Hardware is located, and it is so much more than hardware, very nice store. The girls each got matching t-shirts and Hannah picked up some small plastic cats and then she remembered the new baby so she picked one up for the new baby. I would have liked to buy some canning supplies but couldn't really afford it at the time, but I have a birthday coming up and I told Don that is what I would like. After spending some time in Kidron at Lehman's we headed back 'home' and had another good dinner cosisting of a soup with hamburger in it (very delicious) and I believe we had cake that night for dessert. I almost forgot on the way to Lehman's we stopped off at Heini's cheese factory and picked up some cheese, fudge and some candy–all Amish made. We stayed up and had devotions. Our hostess gave me some good herbal advice to take for my lack of energy and also for my migraines and after some questions on child training we turned in. Both the girls, my friend and I were very tired and we knew we had church the next day. Tune in later to read more about Day 3.

God bless.
